Hi everybody, what's the difference between "let go" and "let go of"?

Howdy Davide. The basic difference is that if you add “of” you need to mention the thing of which you letting go immediately thereafter. For example: He was holding on to the rope when suddenly he LET GO. He suddenly LET GO OF the rope.
