The character "头 - Tóu " is a pictophonetic character.
 Let's have a look at the traditional writing to make it easier to understand. 

 頭= 豆+页

 It consists of two parts: the radical "页" (pronounced xié) and the phonetic "豆 - Dòu ".

In this type of pictophonetic characters, the radical provides the meaning category of the character, while the diaphragm indicates the pronunciation . 

The original meaning of "页- xié" is head, Therefore "头 - Tóu" primarily means "head." It can also refer to a person's mind or intellect, and it can be used to describe the top or leading position of something, such as in a group or series.

1.Noun:
General: "头 - Tóu" refers directly to the head of a person or an animal.
例如（For example）: 他的头很大。-Tā de tóu hěn dà 。 (His head is very big.)

 老头儿 - Lǎo tóur : Used informally to refer to an elderly man, where "头儿 - tóur" adds a sense of familiarity or endearment.
例如：公园里有几个老头儿在下象棋。- Gōng yuán lǐ yǒu jǐ gè lǎo tóu er zài xià xiàng qí 。
 (There are a few old men playing chess in the park.)

插头 - Chā tóu: Refers to the plug that connects devices to a power source, emphasizing the endpoint of the connection.
例如：请拔掉插头以断开电源。- Qǐng bá diào chā tóu yǐ duàn kāi diàn yuán 。
(Please unplug the plug to disconnect the power.)

2.Measure Word:

 "头" is also used as a measure word for livestock and some other animals.
例如：三头牛。- Sān tóu niú 。 (Three cows.)

3.Leadership or Priority: 
It can indicate the foremost or leading element.
例如：队伍的头。- Duì wu de tóu 。 (The head of the line.)

4. Idiomatic Expressions: 

例如：头痛 - Tóu tòng  (headache), 开头 -Kāi tóu (beginning), 破头 - Pò tóu (literally 'crack one's head', meaning to go to a lot of trouble), 抢破头 - Qiǎng pò tóu  (desperately competing, literally 'fighting until one's head breaks').

Chinese Item:

What do you think is the most expensive place in the world to live? New York? London? Maybe Tokyo?

While Japan has long had a reputation as an expensive place to live, its cities have been getting cheaper in recent years — with some big changes coming just in the last 12 months.

American consulting company Mercer recently released its 2024 Cost of Living City Ranking, which compares the costs of over 200 items in 226 cities around the world. The results are based on a March 2024 survey, and include things like housing and transportation, as well as food, clothing and entertainment.

All five of the world's most expensive cities are unchanged from last year, with Hong Kong and Singapore again in first and second place. These two Asian cities are followed by three Swiss cities: Zurich, Geneva and Basel.

Bern, another Swiss city, has risen from seventh to sixth place, while New York City has fallen one place to seventh.

However, Tokyo has dropped 30 places to 49th — putting it right after San Juan in Puerto Rico. And Osaka has dropped 53 places to 146th — just ahead of Wuhan in China.

However, the biggest drop since last year was for Lagos in Nigeria, which fell 178 places to 225th. And the least expensive city is now Abuja, Nigeria's capital, at 226th.

Mercer wrote that many big drops were caused by changes in exchange rates. Japan's yen dropped to a 34-year low against the US dollar in March — and hit a 38-year low in early July.

The ranking was also affected by inflation — especially in housing prices — as well as increasing political uncertainty around the world.

Mercer says it's important for companies to look at its cost of living ranking when thinking about sending staff to live abroad.

Japan Tumbles on Expensive Cities Ranking

Los escamoles son un platillo típico prehispánico cuyo nombre proviene del náhuatl “azcatl” que significa hormiga y molli que quiere decir “guiso”. Este platillo es muy consumido en la región centro de México y consta de huevecillos de hormiga que se cosechan de marzo a mayo.

Uno de los lugares donde más se practica su “extracción”, además del estado de Tlaxcala, es en el municipio de San Agustín Tlaxiaca, Hidalgo, donde existe la granja Teotlacualli, dedicada al cultivo de este pequeño insecto.

Armando Soria es uno de los fundadores de este espacio, ubicado en el ejido Puerto México, en el cual se busca reproducir, desde 2010, estas hormigas (Liometopum Apiculat) cuyas larvas contienen uno de los más altos niveles de proteínas, 68 a 74%, a diferencia del 14 a 17% que contiene la carne. Esto convierte a los escamoles en una gran fuente alimenticia que “aportaría valor añadido a muchos alimentos” y que pueden comerse “como harina en galletas o incluso en dulces”, dice Soria.

Enedino Peña es escamolero de tradición y colabora con Teotlacualli. Por generaciones su familia se ha dedicado a la extracción. Él conoce bien a las hormigas y la técnica adecuada para “sacarlas sin dañar el nido”. Cada año, durante la temporada de la larva, busca a diario nuevos hormigueros.

Es una jornada ardua, de todo el día bajo el sol; además, el trabajo sólo puede realizarse de una forma: escarbando con las manos para evitar lastimar las larvas, con ello, se expone a la mordedura de cientos de hormigas cada vez que abre un nido.

Soria y Peña coinciden en que el mayor enemigo es la extracción inmoderada, pues dado el alto costo al que se venden los escamoles, muchas personas saquean los nidos sin conocer la técnica, destrozando los hormigueros y provocando la muerte de numerosas colonias. Además, estos saqueadores no se preocupan por volver a cubrir los nidos, acción necesaria para que las hormigas puedan volver a reproducirse.
