I’m reading a story of girls fleeing their parental houses to catholic convents and I’m wondering do they welcomed in the convent while being Jewish? Or they need to convert to Catholicism if they want to stay in?

Is this the story of Sister Denise Bergon, the mother superior of the Convent of Notre Dame de Massip in Capdenac, who hid 83 Jewish girls in the convent in 1942 and 1943? According to a newspaper story from the BBC, "The children's lack of familiarity with Catholic rituals threatened to expose them, but an explanation was found."

We can't tell without more context. Can you give us the name of the story? I'm just guessing here. I think a convent might give temporary shelter, unconditionally, to girls in a dangerous situation. However, to join the convent and become permanent members, they would need to become members of the convent's religious order. They would need to become nuns. They would need to accept the convent's religion. But that would not be enough, they would also have to accept a large number of additional, strict rules of the order itself.
