Just to expand on Christine's answer.. A trait is an inherent characteristic of a person or animal. For humans we tend to use it to refer to personality traits so when we describe a person as lazy, vindictive, kind hearted etc, these things are traits. Sometimes there's a genetic element, so it can be something you've inherited from your parents. For animals it can be both character and physical, and its usually genetic. You can breed an animal to display certain traits such as strong legs or a quiet temperament. A feature is usually a characteristic of an object. For example: sash windows are a feature of the old house. Or: a feature of this new phone is... If you are using feature when speaking about a person, it almost always refers to their physical features so, eyes, nose, hair etc. It can have other meanings but I think in this case it's probably this one you're looking for. Hope this helps you know which one to use!

Trait is something natural, example characteristics, attitude etc. You use “trait” while trying to tie certain behavior to the subject. Features are mostly tied to objects mostly to define non- natural aspects. Example, the new TV has additional features such as inbuilt Bluetooth etc.,
