Happy Nouruz, or whatever it is you say!

Nouruz is the persian New Year's fest and takes place around the astronomical begin of spring, which is halfway between winter and summer solstice (between midsummer and midwinter). I write "around" because the fest lasts for several days.

Nouruz is an ancient Zoroastrian celebration, and it's celebrated by the Persians and some other peoples in the regions, like the Kurds.

It is a family celebration and it's customary to exchange presents. There are similarities to christmas, like the bearded Uncle Nouruz who deals out presents and who I guess may have been the model for the popular imagination of St. Nicholas who evolved into Santa Claus? He has a black servant as sidekick, which is a parallel to the Dutchs' "Zvarte Piet". A coincidental one I would guess in this case.

Oh and there is that day when you jump over fires, it's today isn't it? So have fun, but be careful and don't wear synthetic clothes! ;)

Good day

Today I will tell you about the holiday of Nowruz and how it iscelebrated in Iran🇮🇷🇮🇷🇮🇷 Nowruz, which consists of the unification of the words Now(New) and Ruz(Day), is the first day of creation according to the beliefe of the Iranians, so it is very special and important holiday in Iran. Nowruz holiday is on March 21tg, but this holiday is not celebrated for 1 day, it is 13 day. In these days, relatives are visited, because of that the houses are cleaned before the holiday, the carpets are washed and new dresses are bought.

From the begining of March, there are some men who are wear red dresses and have gloomy faces who are called (Haji Firooz) or (Amo Nowruz) read poems on the streets and play music, and some people dans and accompany them.

Happy Nowruz to all my friends and allthe Persian around the world! 🍃🌱🌾🌿🌹☘️🌺💐💐🌸🌿🌿🌾🌾🌾🌱🌱🌱

And isn't there a thing called "هفت سین" where you put seven items with names beginning with the letter "س" on a table?

سیب
سماق
سیر
سبزه
سمنو
سکه
سرکه

It is also interesting (as Noritz pointed out above), that some of the Norouz customs have similarities to traditions found in other cultures and religions outside of Zoroastrianism.

In 1853 the book "The Two Babylons" by Alexander Hislop traced the origins of many of the traditions in "Church-ianity" back to ancient Babylon. Although much of what he wrote is disputed today, it's an interesting concept. Perhaps the similarities we see are due to their common origin.
