Diego
do you prefer speaking english with a native speaker or with a non-native speaker?

I prefer speaking english with a native speaker because I feel that I could learn more from them, I like to copy their style of speaking, writing and the way they pronounce words and phrases. However there are many things to consider:

1. Here in my country is very difficult to find a native english speaker

2. It can be a little frightening for some kind of people

What do you think about?

A native speaker would be best, but since they are not always available, you should also consider if you could learn something from a not native speaker. I know the people in the Netherlands, Sweden, Denmark, Norway are used to speak and hear English as a second language from childhood on. So I think a novice student can certainly practice his English with me, if I may be that arrogant.

Hi Diego!

In my humble opinion it depends on what is your English level.

I've started to study English just recently... In this step I find more useful for me speaking with someone who isn't an English native speaker because it is easier to understand. If I had to talk to a native, probably I wouldn't be able to understand anything. Besides, don't ask me why but I become incredibly shy when I have to talk to an English mother language with the consequence that I block immediately. I hope I'll have less speaking problems in future. :)

I prefer speaking English with a native speaker in order to get used to direct speaking and listening to him or her.

@ marco, I understand what you said, Maybe I am like you an introvert, However I think is important to get out of your comfort zone and speak with native speakers, I have practiced with native and non-native speakers, I prefer native speakers because I feel the flow of the language more accurately and their pronunciation is better.

@gustavo, Well, I am not looking for teachers because I can´t afford one and I use movies or songs to improve my pronunciation and the acquisition of new vocabulary, but you are right a good partner is important.

@Sonia, hello nice to see another Colombian in this webpage, I disagree about mistakes because Even native speakers make mistakes and no matter if you speak or listen to native speakers only, you will make mistakes, even in spanish we make mistakes.

@malsikof you are right they are not always available and of course I could learn a lot from others non-native english speakers, I think that It is important to practice english as much as possible and if you have the chance to speak with someone go for it.

@alexander, if you have a native speaker always available for you it is great and if you don´t feel afraid to speak with one go for it.
