stative verbs describe states or conditions that contiunue for some time (for example, verbs like "to be, to have, to see, to think, to believe, to know,...). action verbs describe an action, activity or a process which can begin and finish (verbs like "to go, to run, to speak, to read, to play"). Some verbs can be a stative or an action verb depending on their meaning . "win" is an action verb because it describes an event which can have a duration in time and can be completed (stative verbs cannot be completed because they are not actions).

Easy. Actions involve doing something. States involve being something.
