Hello,I am a Chinese(or Cantonese to be exact).I am gonna tell you how I learnt traditional scripts. First of all, you should know that only three cities in China use traditional scripts/traditional characters - Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan. Mostly ppl in HK and Mc speak Cantonese. To some extent, Cantonese and Mandarin are two totally different languages. Cantonese - traditional characters , Mandarin - simplified characters. Now, I am gonna talk about how I learned traditional characters, Actually, my first language is Cantonese, although I never use traditional characters. I used SC at school because I wasnt in HK, MC or TW. However, I watched HK TV shows when I was a child. I read the subtitle. Now, I can recognize TC but dont know how to write. If u want to learn Chinese, its not necessary to learn both SC and TC. Before you learn Chinese, choose Mandarin or Cantonese first. If u choose Cantonese, then you should learn TC.If you choose Mandarin, learn SC. If u really wanna learn TC, start with TC then SC. Cuz you always know what "laugh out loud" means before u know what "lol" means. Hope you can understand my answer, correct my mistakes btw. lol.........And... .....we can help each other learning languages,, U help me with my Eng and I can help you with your Chinese, I can add ur facebook or we can send Email or chat on other apps.
