저기요! vs. 여기요! - using these to get the waiter's attention. I learned that you can say 저기요! in a restaurant to get the waiter's attention. I learned that you can also use 여기요! in a restaurant to get the waiter's attention. So then I started wondering what the difference is between these two phrases. I believe 저기요! means "Excuse me". For example, you could use it when trying to get through a crowd. On the other hand, I think 여기요! means "Over here!" So... it seems to me that, when trying to get a waiter's attention, 저기요! might be a little gentler than 여기요! Am I right?

There's no difference between "여기요" and "저기요". Korean usually doesn't put any meaning into these words when you get a waiter's attention. Which means, you could get attention in various way by saying like as below. "주문이요", "이모(when you call the waitress that seems older than you)", "누나 or 언니"(when you call the waitress that seems younger than you), "아저씨"(when you call the waiter), "웨이터" (when you went to fancy restaurant), etc. But still Korean uses 저기요 (or 여기요) generally.
