"em" is the contraction of the object pronoun "them". It is the object pronoun of they, which means many things or to people (when you are not included). A few examples for you: I little brothers want to go out, I'll take 'em (little brothers) to the movie theater. I don't want fruits right now, I'll take 'em (fruits) for lunch. The pronunciation is like the name Emma, but without the "a". I hope you find this message useful. Best regards, Irving

my suggestions for you: 1. don't remember new words just by look at the dictionary and memorize it one by one. That never works. Write a story in your native language and translate it into english. If there are many words you don't know, open your dictionary 2. read english articles, news, fictions as often as you can. Install a dictionary sofware for you computer or dictionary application for your smartphone. If you want, install sticky notes and write down the new words you have to memorize. I'm learning Italian and that's what I do every day 3. listen to american/british songs (that's your choice but it will affect your english style). Look for the lyrics on internet, read while listen to the song. I tried this one when I learned english. For basic english, try to listen westlife/backstreet boys/ 90's songs because they have simple lyrics and easy to understand I still have many ways but I think that three if enough :)
