Is sentence "I did update the project after I've talked to you" correct? My gf says it is better to say "I did update the project after talking to you". I agree with my gf, but my question is still the same. Is the construction "after I have talked" correct or not? By the way, the sentence was said by a person who lives in New York.

My views are these: 1. Knowing what questions to ask is already part of knowledge itself. The real problem with the sentence is the first part. "I updated the project" or "I did update the project" is not gery good English. We update a plan, a log book, a report, an announcement, the records, etc of a project but we do not "update a project". Can you think of a concrete example where it is correct, and meaningful, to say, "update the project"? What us the specific action involved? 2. "After talking to you" is indeed a correct option. 3. Alternatively, you could say, "I did X after I talked to you." Example, I did update the records after I talked to you. 4. "I did X after I've talked to you" is definitely wrong.

The answer is no, it is not correct to use the present perfect here. I did update the project after talking to you. I did update the project after I talked to you. As an aside, I too think that the choice of update as the verb with 'project' doesn't work very well.

It depends on the situation... I updated... means that you stated your action... I DID updated... means that you are trying to emphasize your action (perhaps someone accuse you did not do)

"After talking to you" is fine! Here are some other options you could say: - I updated the project after talking to you - I made the updates after talking to you - I made the updates after we talked
