The process of waxing involves putting warm wax over areas of the body for which the hair is to be removed. The wax cools and hardens and the wax is ripped off - taking the hair with it. It's sort of like plucking a large number of hairs at one time. For people (mostly women) that wear skimpy swimsuits, it is considered unsightly for hair to appear in certain exposed areas of the body (use your imagination). The process is painful and embarrassing, but apparently popular.

To remove the unwanted hair. Having ugly looking strands of hair sticking out from some of your body part can be irritating and embarassed as well.

If a woman said this here in Australia, she would mean that she'd had a 'Brazilian wax'. For a man it would be hair removal from back, chest, thighs, legs, arms and his private parts.

Yeah waxing hurts but I don't see anything embarrashing with it... The whole point/the advantage of waxing compared to shaving is that the after waxing it takes weeks before the hair starts to grow back... aka the smooth result stays way longer than with shaving. With shaving the stuble of hair pops back after about 3 days from shaving and then you have to shave again. Shaving causes small wounds and because you have to shave really often your skin is irritated and itching half of the time. Waxing is short time pain with long time smoothness compared to short time smoothness and the feeling of having ants crawling on your skin of shaving.
