How to use "What a scare!" Do native English speakers use the expression "What a scare!"? Personally, I've never heard that before. I guess most of the time native English speakers use the impolite version "What the f***" Imagine you got up at 3am and you go to the kitchen to drink some water. When you enter to the kitchen suddenly some of your family members appear and you scare to death. I would like to know what native speakers say in this situation. Except "you scared me" Please give me some examples and tell me when and how to use it. Thank you.

The phrase can be used and does not mean the same as WTF! It is however not very common. We use it when something bad could have happened but in the end it didn't. For example, "I was really worried about my medical tests coming back with bad news, but they didn't, thank heavens! What a scare!"

"what a scare" is very old fashioned. Don't use it unless you are over 60 years old.

Grandmother scared you: "wow, you scared me!" Father or mother : "damn, you scared me!" Young friend male : "f.. K (or shit) , you scared me!"
