En español cuando llamamos la atención de alguien en una frase, ponemos una coma antes del nombre de la persona a la que llamamos. Por ejemplo: ¿De dónde eres, Verónica? Lo que cambia completamente el significado de la frase sin coma. ej: ¿De dónde es Verónica? Mis alumnos ingleses no entienden este uso de la coma. ¿Cómo se indica pues el vocativo en inglés? The usage is exactly the same in English: you need to use a comma. "Where are you from, Veronica?" is the only correct way to punctuate this question. Look at this classic example: "Let's eat, Grandma!" versus "Let's eat Grandma!" As you can see, failure to punctuate vocative sentences could have some unfortunate consequences...
