what is difference between verbatim and literally? I check the dictionary. it says word for word and in exactly same words as were used originally. please tell me what is difference between verbatim and literally? I guess verbatim is to repeat the same words from original. It is different with paraphrase.

Verbatum means "word perfect" - every word correct in order, wiothout an error. He learned the poem off so he could recite it word perfect. 1,000 words without an error. . Literally means no metaphor, no second meaning, just exactly as the words say. . He's rich. I mean he's literally got a million dollars in the bank in liquid assets. No exaggeration. . He said said I was going to be tossed out of the school. Did he mean it literally? Should I pack my stuff up? . Don't worry. He is always like that. Don't talke him literally. . He said I had to start over from the beginning. Did he mean it literally, or is he just meaning I need to rework it?

Thanks for quick answer. But I end up more confusing. I checked couple dictionaries that they don't say word perfectly in word order... You gave many examples of literally but I couldn't understand verbatim.

Verbatim is when you recite something -- a poem, a conversation, a chapter from a book, etc. --EXACTLY the way it was said or written. Example 1: Mary: My boyfriend was being mean to me. Sue: What did he say? Mary: Very hurtful things. Sue: What kinds of things? Mary: You want me to tell you VERBATIM what he said? Okay, I'll tell you. He said, "You are fat, ugly, stupid, and I don't love you anymore." Sue : He called you fat, ugly, and stupid?? Mary: That's what he said. VERBATIM. Example 2: You have a favorite movie. You have seen the movie over ten times. Your favorite part of the movie is when the star tells his boss off, and then walks off the job. When you come to that part of the movie, you are able to say the words right along with the actor, VERBATIM. Every word, no mistakes. You have seen the movie so many times that you memorized the scene. Example 3: You hear your favorite song. You sing along , not missing any words, pausing when the singer pauses. You have memorized the song VERBATIM. I apologize for the long answer. Hope it helps you understand what "verbatim" means.
