What does "hedge" mean in this context? "...and hedging on his commitment to a peace deal with the Palestinians leading to a two-state solution. (Isaac) Herzog (Netanyahu's competitor in 2015's election) says Netanyahu has an empty brand, warning about growing tensions with the U.S., Israel`s closest ally, under his leadership" Does "hedge" here mean to take a ambiguous stance? The context is from CNN Student News, March 13, 2015, at 3:33, in case you need the original video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=78Sxl8sCXM8 Thank you for help!

I believe that in this case 'hedging' could be 'backing away from' or 'moving away from'. Hedge can also mean to mitigate or lessen the result of something.
