what's the difference between "rescind" & "revoke"? As far as I know both of these words are formal.So it's not case of formal-informal..

No difference except the spelling

google revoke rescind ==> https://wikidiff.com/rescind/revoke ==> As verbs the difference between rescind and revoke is that rescind is to repeal, annul, or declare void; to take (something such as a rule or contract) out of effect while revoke is to cancel or invalidate by withdrawing or reversing. . So rescind means the rule is now void, not used, no longer applied, but revoke means the rule no longer exists. This seems rather subtle and similar in effect.
