The term "marica" is a derogatory term for a homosexual male throughout Latin America. In Bogotá the term "marica" is also used among friends similar to "dude" in the United States. It is used by both males and females below 40 in a casual setting among friends. It took a while to get use to hearing "marica" because in California (right by Mexico) "marica" means "marica". By the way, it is Colombia not Columbia. Oye marica por que no me compraste una cerveza = Hey dude, why didn't you buy me a beer

In Spanish "Marica" means a man that likes other man. But it is more probably that he is using with a friendly mode. ( I am not sure. :)
