"That's legit!"
Has anyone else heard of the word "legit?"
It seems to have really caught on in my city (a college town) in the past couple years. It's passed through the phrase when everyone was enamoured of it and used it every other sentence, and now seems a pretty standard slang word.
I'm very curious to know if this word has developed in other regions and among other age groups, as well.
Also, I've noticed it being used most often as an adjective, synonymously as any of "cool," "amazing," "wonderful," "serious," "okay," etc.
But it's also used sometimes like an adverb: "I legit passed that exam" or "That movie legit put me to sleep," sort of as "really" or "definitely."
A bit less often, I've also heard the full words "legitimate" and "legitimately" used in the same, new, broad sense as "legit."
What about you guys?
Thank you!
