I had an interesting discussion with Natalie about the nuances of English usage as applied to an article by The Economist. The article discussed the implications of recent data on changes in the academic and learning performance of various age cohorts in developed countries over time. I argued that the explanation cited for the shift exemplified in one cohort did not apply to and, without additional context, could not explain the change seen in a different, younger cohort. I said the author wrongly took his explanation to reflect the latter (and so for it when construed this way to be obvious to his audience) when, at face value, it reasonably could not be held to do this. I gave Natalie my detailed reasons for my view, and she, immediately perceiving the point, agreed with me. Her written summary of our conversation reflected the above and other points raised. She is a marvellous teacher, capable of helping all levels of learners, from the most rudimentary to the most sophisticated.

I appreciate speaking to Natalie after a long absence. She helps sharpen my skills as a conversationalist; but more than simply doing so in a perfunctory manner by asking questions, she exudes empathy. She is as industrious as she expects the person answering her questions to be, hoping he answers these questions as comprehensively as he can in the circumstances. That’s why there is genuine reciprocity in her dealings with her students. She proves her diligence by making meticulous notes, which document the key points raised, the replies offered, and her commentary on these points and replies. These notes show the remarkable concision she is capable of in her writing, which reflects the efficiency and clarity of her communications. I find it impressive that without breaking her stride or letting her attention stray, she can multi-task: during her sessions, she makes notes, asks questions, receives replies, comprehends the replies given, and summarises and critiques these matters.

What a pleasure to learn with Natalia. I love progressing with her. I like how meticulous she is. Natalia helps me achieve my dream🥰.
