My name is Sulanie Nel. I'm currently 19 years old and I live in South Africa.
Afrikaans is my home language, but I am fluent in English as well. I love spending time with two different types of people; the people who I call my friends and family in real life, and those intricately put together by brilliant authors who exist on pages.
As someone who finds solace in reading I have developed a love for language and find it absolutely beautiful. Teaching Afrikaans allows me to, not only share the beauty of language, but to share the beauty of my home language.

I believe in two statements: 1. Patience is the key to teaching, and 2. Confidence is the key to learning.
Therefore, as your teacher, I aim to help you not only improve your Afrikaans, but to help you converse with confidence. I also do all I can to optimise our lessons for your improvement, this includes an informal environment and clarity over the fact that everyone moves at their own pace.
Learning a new language can be extremely daugnting, so well done for taking the first step in looking for a tutor.

My lessons will mainly be focused on conversational Afrikaans, since I believe that is where the learning starts. However I am also more than happy to help with reading, writing, speech preperation and homework.
I prefer to only set forward a teaching plan once I meet my students and see what level they're at and their goals for their Afrikaans journey. My lessons will then be planned around reaching those goals and improving Afrikaans, whichever level my student might be at.
I understand that students learn at different paces, and I'm more than happy to adapt my teaching to the pace the student is comfortable at.

TutorMy exprience as a tutor has helped me to understand how different students learn at different rates.
It has also allowed me to adapt to different teaching methods based on my student's needs.
I now also have experience to help students understand and speak a foreign language (Afrikaans to English students).
I truly believe this has enabled me to be the best possible tutor I can be.

When giving instuctions and explaining topics it is important to be able to break topics down to their most basic form and build from there. Working at a Pre-school has helped me to be able to do this effectively.

Sulanie is an incredibly sweet and knowledgeable tutor. She tailors the lesson to your needs and she's also a laugh in class which makes the learning experience a lot easier. I would recommend her to anyone wanting to learn Afrikaans and South Africa! 10000/10 :D
