Hi Juan! They are synonyms but ‘to review’ is used in a more formal setting whereas ‘to go over’ is used more colloquially. For example in a meeting your boss may say ‘today I’d like to review our latest project’ and later you may say to your colleagues ‘the boss wanted to go over the project’. You can also ask someone to go over something you didn’t understand. For example to a teacher you could say ‘please can you go over the grammar rules for the past tense, I don’t understand’. Hope this helps ☺️

While the meanings may or many not overlap, they do not mean the same thing. To "review" means to "view or look at [something] again." This means that one has already viewed or looked at it in the past. To "go over" means to "look carefully or thoroughly at [something] that has many parts." So if the thing you are "going over" is something that you have already viewed or looked at before, then the meanings overlap. But that does not mean they are synonyms. Context may cause the two phrases to SEEM as if they mean the same thing, however. For instance, suppose someone says, "I'm going to go over my notes one more time before I give the presentation." We could replace "go over" with "review" here. But that is only because of the context. It is actually the words "one more time" (and perhaps our knowledge that most people look at notes some time before a presentation at least once) that provides information that this person has looked at the notes before. But consider the following example: "I'm interested in buying a used car, but I want my friend to go over it once before I buy it." Here, it is implied that the friend is a mechanic. To "go over" the car means to inspect many parts of the car. But it is clear that my mechanic-friend has never seen this car before. So we could not use "review" in place of "go over" in this sentence. Here is another example: Suppose Anne is going away on vacation for a week. Anne has hired a neighbor's daughter (Julia) for the first time, to stay at her house while she is away. Julia will take care of Anne's dog and cat. Anne texts Julia: "Hi, Julia. Would you please come over two hours before I have to leave? I would like to go over a few things with you." Anne has a list that contains several important things for Julia to know about taking care of the pets. But Anne cannot say "I would like to review a few things with you," because Julia has never taken care of the animals before and does not know what is on Anne's list.

To review is more formal and go over is informal. But they both have the same meaning
