"GIVE A FORK ABOUT PORK". Can't make head or tail of it:) Will you help me understand it, please?
Hello, guys. I've come across this phrase in the Web. I haven't got the slightest idea about what it could possibly mean.
The phrase I'm asking about is - "Give A Fork About Pork".
Basically the text is about the importance of knowing where your meat comes from. There they also discuss the threats to pig farming and how the people of Britain could possibly help.The final words are:
"Check out his crusade to get people to support farmers and 'Give A Fork About Pork' by looking out for quality pork supported by the Red Tractor logo on pack".

It's a play on words. They're basically saying "Give a fuck about pork." But they've changed fuck to fork in order to make it rhyme with pork and maybe also to make the ad sound less vulgar. Also the expression is "I can't make heads or tails of it" not "head or tail..."

It's a catchphrase, a gimmick, playing on the fact that 'fork' sounds a little bit like 'fuck.' If you give a fuck about something then you care about it (it's perhaps more common for people to say that they don't give a fuck about something but it's still possible in the affirmative.) Anyway, 'give a fuck' is not polite, it's not appropriate language for a campaign like this where presumably they want to target as many people as possible.
