I'm supposed to know (9560 words) but I'm sorry Lawrence, I just don't believe this
test. I don't even think I know this number of words in Arabic "my native language" :D
I wonder if all participants in this discussion understood this test right :)
Here what it says in the beginning:
(Check the box for each word you know at least one definition
for. (Don't check boxes for words you know you've seen before,
but whose meaning you aren't exactly sure of.)

I`m a native English speaker and came out with 15,600 words pretending not to be a native speaker. I don’t think much of these online tests. They`re bogus and don’t test anything. They use words NOBODY ever uses or even has heard of as native speakers. These tests are complete nonsense. I used myvocabulary size. Total garbage. How can they assess 15,600 words from 100 baby questions with many words no native speaker ever uses???

On testyourvocab.com everything is designed for honest answers and the result can easily be overstated - you can cheat so easy...
The site http://my.vocabularysize.com is more strict, because you have to understand the meaning of words.

I tested again, as a native speaker, this time being honest and came out with 19,000 words.
I still think this test is bogus.
