Hello all!
I will soon be conducting a study on idiom usage in L1 and L2 Spanish speakers. I need to come up with 9 Spanish idioms: 5 pertaining to death, 4 relating to love. Below I have listed the ones I have so far to give you a baseline of what I have (the expressions I have listed I have heard through conversations, through formal lessons, etc.).
Love:
Amor a primera vista- Love at first sight
Sentir mariposas en el estómago- To feel butterflies in the stomach
Gustarle a alguien- To like someone
(se) Echar de menos- To miss
Death:
Cerrar los ojitos- “To close the little eyes”
Clavar el pico-”To hammer the beak”
Estirar la pata- “To kick the bucket”
In addition, if you know any native Spanish speakers who would like to participate in the study, please send them my way! I need 7-10 for the study, and it would only take them 10-15 minutes to complete. Hope to hear from you soon!
Death:
Ir al patio de los callados - Go to the courtyard of the quiet ones
Ponerse el pijama de madera - To put on the wooden pijama
