I think the only situation where I'd pay for an automated, text-based level assessment is if a prospective employer asked for proof of proficiency via an officially recognised standardised test (think IELTS, TestDaF, JLPT, HSK, etc). Might be interesting for people who are very eager to have written evidence of their progress, though.
