Breaking invisible walls. It's known that learning foreign languages has become a good business for many people according to an increasing market demand. So, more languages you can speak, more job chances you get. There is no doubt that globalisation has changed the rules of job market and it is no enough to have a degree or master's degree: you must be able to speak English as an international communication language and other european languages. As a Spanish teacher and a student of English language, I am quite aware of the importance of this kind of professionalisation. English is needed for every teaching field, for example, to write an academic research and it is published in a renowned magazine, so that it could be read for a huge number of readers. To achieve a good essay in English, you do not only need a high level of English, but you also have to develop a perfec academic style and a knowledge of it. Obviously, it takes a long time practicing until your writing skill accomplishes perfection. Researching involves the reading of English references (books, articles, researches, and so on). Spanish people prefer a reading in their language, however English language is compulsory in this issue and we should get used to reading this kind of papers, besides being a model for our own academic essays regarding a right writing style and methodologies. Talking about other european languages could be a great advantage and an opportunity to learn more about other valuable trends or innovating researches. Not only european languages are drawn our attention: Asian languages, such as Chinese and Japanese are being learned by a reduce number of teachers who desire to work in China or Japan. Therefore, some Asian countries have been becoming attractive spots to work as teachers and an unforgetable experience with positive consequences. In conclusion, I must say that breaking invisible walls that they seems so high at the beginning should not be an impossible mission for us. First of all, we must have our priorities straight: what do we want to achieve? Second, how we may do it. This point demands making an effort, determination and imitating good models. By the time you get used to doing the routine steps, your mind will stop translating what you read or write and it becomes an instintive activity. Third, and last, perseverance can be your best ally. After making some mistakes, your range of good choices and mistakes can be assessed in order to be more productive.
