They weren't allowed him to do anything they want. They didn't allow them to do anything they wanted. Which one is true? Thanks for your help.

The second one is correct. If you use "were" then the verb "allow" must be "allowing" in the past continuous.

The first one would also be correct if it the person would not be doubled up. They weren't allowed (him)to do anything they wantED.
