Patates/ pommes de terre??? I have a question for French people about potatoes. I knew that it is called "pommes de terre" in French. On the other hand I encountered another word recently - "des patates douces" - "sweet potatoes" which is other vegetable. Then. Is there word "patates" for "potatoes" in French? :)

Bonjour :) Pommes de terre = patates (language colloquial) Patate douce = un autre type de legume que la patate normale.

Bonjour Ελπίδα. "Pommes de terre" is the equivalent of potatoes and is more use in formal usage and "Patates" is more use in colloquial usage.
