What does the meaning of this 'get spun up'? I heard on the radio 'spun up'. What does that mean exactly? The whole sentence is 'This gets spun up'.

There are a few possibilities for "spun up": - "entangled/trapped", as in a spider spinning a web around a fly. - "promoted on radio", as Nique explained. Extra "spins" for extra exposure. The song is moved to "high rotation" (ie. played often). - "elaborated with false or exaggerated details", as in "spin-doctoring". To "put a spin on a story" means to find a tiny angle of the story and exaggerate that. Sometimes the actual truth of the story is lost in "the spin", so this is considered a form of lying. People who do this profesionally (ie. reinterpret the truth to fit someone's agenda) are called "spin doctors".

What exactly the group verb "spun up" means is that you temporarily went out of your consciousness. Here's another synonym for it that is 'zoned out'. Try a cartoon show named sponge bob. Scenes change in every 10 sec, it just simultaneously changes and as soon as you're done watching it you will be spun up. Think of a situation when you got down from your roller coaster ride, the feeling you probably had was kind of zoned out or spun up. To give it a more formal sound "Disoriented" can serve you the best.

I'm not exactly sure what the context was. Only one thing I know is that they were talking about a crime. I guest it means a situation maybe got out of control like AnthonyM said. Thanks a lot. :)

I have a few ideas but i'm not 100% sure especially without any context to guess the meaning "this gets spun up" might mean a lie or a situation maybe got out of control, or maybe something that was said was misunderstood. "spun up" might mean to get involved in, kind of like getting mixed up in something. sorry I can't help more.

I've never heard this term used before. But judging from the context 'radio' the this may be a song. If so I'd guess they are saying that the song get's played a lot. This is a reference to Old School DJs who actually use turntables and vinyl records that spin. So if a records gets a lot of spins then that means people listen to it a lot/ it gets played a lot.
