Another can mean 'an additional'. It is used with singular countable nouns. Could I have another piece of bread? Another can be used as a pronoun without a noun, or with one. Those cakes are wonderful. Could I have another (one)? With uncountable and plural nouns, we normally use 'more'. Would you like some more meat? Another can also mean 'alternative'. I think we should paint it another colour. If 'other' is used with a noun it has no plural form. If it is used alone, it can have a plural form. Tell the other people. Tell the others.

'Other' is an adjective. 'An other' is written as 'another'.

Yes they are both adjectives, and sometimes can be used interchangeably. but this is a great question a really a matter of listening to how it is used in practice. -You can choose another. -you can choose another one. - you can choose one other. - we should listen to one another = we should listen to each other -maybe another time! = may a different time (emphasizing that the time will be some 'other' one) -ask the others what they think (others means people here) -Not another one! (emphasizing that there is one more of something but it is a different or new one. think like a pimple. Gross, i know -Not another pimple!
