There are different British accents and each seems to have an attitude to go with it. The worst is the upper class British accent, which you will find around Cambridge. The British upper class are, for the most part, the most insufferable snobs you could ever meet - completely condescending and superior. Americans don't care for them too much, but it's the attitude that goes with the accent that repels most of us. On the other hand, the British middle and lower classes are some of the friendliest people I've met. A Liverpool or London accent is very well received, simply because it usually goes with a friendlier attitude. American girls especially are attracted to non-snobbish British accent, as a few of my male British friends can testify. What's funny with all Brits talking to Americans is to have them talk about a "fortnight" and receive blank looks from just about all the Americans.

well, i am canadian, but i do not have a problem with the british accent. i can do one myself...but i do not have any problems understanding them...even when they use "english" english i can still make out what they are saying

Hmm I have worked with British co workers in 天津塘沽区 teaching English at 慧特国际英语学校。 I can say I don't really like the way they pronounce some words like 土豆 here it's potato in Britain it's potata 哎呀 it's a potato。 Some students （those never taught by an American teacher） would ask why I would say some words different from the way they were taught by the British teachers，they quickly figured it out 呵呵。 some of my students would sometimes complain or tell me or the Chinese tutors that the British teachers English was not clear and hard to follow，and they talked to fast， I never had a problem understanding them。Most students asked for classes taught by me and another teacher from Ireland who lived in America for half his life， as they wanted to learn American English for studying abroad， and had no desire for learning British English。
