I hate my dictionary it says 单相思 means unrequited love is it right? someone else said that it does not make sense..how would you say Unrequited love?.... For those of you who dont know the term unrequited love .... Unrequited love is love that is not openly reciprocated, ( returned or mutual) even though reciprocation is usually deeply desired. The beloved may or may not be aware of the admirer's deep affections.

单恋, it is 单(相)思, without 相, it is the same as 单思 

单相思 may be two are in love by assumption, but only one is missing the other.

"The beloved may or may not be aware of the admirer's deep affections."  It is 单恋 or 单思.

单相思  dan1xiang1si1 means unrequited love or longing, one-sided lovesickness.
