What's the literal meaning of "držím palce"? I understand it means "good luck", but what's the story behind "holding thumbs"?

"Držím palce" can be translated as "crossed fingers", too. I'm sorry, i don't know story behind it.

In engligh I use "fingers crossed" od "keep your fingers crossed" .. this is the closest literal meaning. If you wish someone luck you can also say "zlom väz" and the translation for this idiom is "break a neck" .. I hope I helped you too :)

Literal meaning would be "holding fingers" and you say it to encourage somebody in something like you would say "Good luck".
