1. What do you think of impulse purchase? Impulse purchases are unplanned and often happen when we see something attractive. Sometimes they bring joy, but most of the time we realize we didn’t really need the item. Being mindful before buying is always better. 2. What apps are popular in your country? Why? In Afghanistan, WhatsApp, Facebook, and TikTok are very popular. People use WhatsApp for messaging and voice calls, Facebook for news and staying connected, and TikTok for short videos and entertainment. These apps are simple, accessible, and help people stay in touch. 3. How to improve sleep quality? Good sleep starts with a good routine. Going to bed at the same time every night, avoiding caffeine late in the day, and reducing screen time before bed can really help. Also, a quiet and dark room makes a big difference. 4. What could we learn from our elders that could not be learned from books? Our elders have lived through difficult times and important moments. They can teach us patience, resilience, family values, and cultural traditions. These are things we can’t truly understand just by reading—they must be felt and experienced through their stories. 5. What is the most pointless rule in your school? One pointless rule I remember was not allowing students to ask questions during class. It discouraged curiosity and made learning harder. I believe students should feel free to ask and explore ideas.

Hi, In my classes, I especially enjoy conversations about travel and culture and learning things about your countries. The story below is from Chapter 8 of my coming book, The Long Road Home. The story is true and takes place in my second year of teaching in the Czech Republic. Jitka became my first wife. "...The Chemopetrol managers I teach are upper intermediate or advanced. The latter spot the sexual innuendos in the short stories I take.” Jeff stared at me after looking round the room. “It’s not that there’s sex in the stories, but rather there are bits that if taken out of context could be sexual. This one’s not but take the sentence: I had a friend for dinner. Do you understand that I served him dinner or that I ate him?” Jitka gasped, “What?” “Yeah. English is hugely context based. Words don’t have a fixed meaning. Take one sentence out of a conversation and it could mean a number of things. I think Hannibal Lector uses that line in Silence of the Lambs.” The lesson today is when you read and see a new word, look it up in a dictionary, but take the meaning that most closely fits the context of the paragraph, not always the first meaning. Check out my podcasts. Two discuss different chapters of my book. I specialize in teaching teens and adults critical reading, creative and academic reading. Book a trial. Let's chat.

Could you please help me correcting this essay? There are two major approaches of learning in the world, and each one of them has its specific features. However, they both lead to the same goal which is providing students with suitable knowledge for them. First of all, the traditional view to teaching is still applied in most educational institutions in the world. This view supports the idea of making the student a listener and passive receiver of information. It keeps students away from discovering or making knowledge themselves. This view makes the student an absorber to information made by others. Nevertheless, there is another modernized view to teaching, which helps students in being involved in making knowledge and discovering things. To illustrate this, this way of education focus on practical things like research and laboratory works and scientific expeditions. It helps student discovering things by themselves rather than keeping them in a classroom and giving them the information passively. In my opinion, I consider that the second view to teaching is more accurate, because the experience teach students more than listening to the information. In addition, it increases self awareness and self-esteem of students, and makes them effective people in society. Therefore, their point of view to schooling change and they accepts teaching more with this educational way. To summarize, there are two educational views followed by schools in the world, the passive listening view, and information discovering view and each one of them helps students to get well educated with a difference in the way of providing them with information. The second view is the modern one and it becomes increasingly popular due to its effectiveness in making students knowledge lovers and more self confident.
